WHAT HAPPENED AT THE WEBINAR in 2021?
A Report from our on-line Conference 29 September 2021
Older Prisoners * Assisted Death * Music and Dementia
David Jolley – Chair of Christians on Ageing – introduces the Report
Christians on Ageing is an ecumenical charity with 40 years of history. When it began, it was the only UK Christian charity focused on the needs of older people in the Churches. Its aims included wishing to help Churches to see and understand the special needs and gifts of older people which were, and still are, so easily overlooked. Today we work alongside several other charities and organisations which have similar ambitions.
This webinar was an important event in our calendar. It was held in place of a Conference out of respect for the Covid-19 situation. The structure was similar to that used at our 2019 conference in Sheffield which was a friendly, enjoyable and informative occasion, spawning ideas which have guided us in the months since then.
Christians on Ageing has many people to thank for their dedicated service over the years, and of these we acknowledge the contributions of Jo Kennedy who was Honorary Secretary and previously Chair. Jo died suddenly in June 2021 while busy on several projects. He will be remembered with affection. We are grateful to him and his wife Sue for all their selfless service.
The programme for the day explored current major interests of Christians on Ageing:
Older Prisoners: what are their needs and how are they treated?
Dying and Death: the possibility of a change of law to allow assisted dying
Living with Dementia: approaches to support a good life
