What the papers said in the week ending 23 April 2022
‘They’re not coming to me because they know I am 100 and I’m not really worth it any more’. These are the words of Irene Silsby as she lay on the floor of her nursing home with a fractured pelvis, waiting for six hours before an ambulance came to take her to hospital. We know little of the 100 years that she has lived before that dreadful day, but these words and the photograph which appeared in the national press bite deeply into our hearts.
